Minister of Investment/Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, said that the government is encouraging the development of renewable energy based-industrial estate in an attempt to attract foreign investors to invest in Indonesia in view of the country’s huge potential in new and renewable energy with total capacity of 3.677 Gigawatt.

“Unfortunately, the development of green energy in Indonesia has not been optimized. Whereas, the use of new and renewable energy has become a determinant factor for investors or foreign companies to invest their money in Indonesia, including the management of natural resources and sustainable environment,” Rosan told detik.com Leaders Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

“I am a new figure in the Ministry of Investment, but I have met foreign and domestic investors who considers our attitude toward sustainable management of natural resources and environment as one of their main priorities to invest in Indonesia,” he added.

He cited the electric vehicle manufacture as an example, with many foreign companies interested in establishing their production facilities in countries that have utilized renewable energy just to make sure the energy supply that they use to produce electric vehicle is environmental friendly.

“For example, they are interested in manufacturing EV cars here and want clean energy as their energy source. The lack of clean energy will be against their vision and mission as well as their policy to bring clean energy as future champion,” Rosan said.

He said further that by encouraging the development of renewable energy-based industrial estate, including clean energy companies that want to operate in the green industrial estate, investors will opt to stay in Indonesia and not move to neighboring countries.

Rosan said clean energy-based industrial estate is not an obligation, but a market demand that should be followed.

“If Indonesia does not develop the industrial estate, it will be left behind by many countries including neighboring countries,” he concluded.
