The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics, representing the Indonesian government, met with Chinese representatives to discuss collaboration on investment in artificial intelligence (AI) technology development.

The meeting was part of the working visit of Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi Budi to Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, May 27, 2024. He discussed potential AI collaboration with China’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Shan Zhongde.

“We hope this meeting fosters better collaboration for mutual success,” Budi said.

Budi himself will visit Shanghai in June to explore digital cooperation with China.

The discussion also focused on leveraging AI to boost the digital economy, aiming to transition Indonesia from a developing country to a developed nation.

Regarding regulations, Indonesia is drafting rules to support AI innovation. The ministry has already issued an AI usage code of ethics.

Budi expressed hope that China would support Indonesia’s digitalization efforts through AI, especially in remote areas.

Deputy Minister Shan Zhongde conveyed China’s interest in supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation, including AI and 5G/6G technology development.

He invited Indonesia to send a delegation to an international forum on the digital industry and AI in early September in China.

“We look forward to cooperation on AI for the benefit of our people,” he said.
