National flag acrrier Garuda Indonesia is striving to expand its flight network, particularly in Southeast Asian region, this time through strengthened synergy with Vietnam Airlines.

The strengthened synergy between the two airlines was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra and Vietnam Airlines President & CEO Le Hong Ha in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Through this synergy, the two airlines can optimize various cooperation opportunities, including intensifying joint marketing campaigns, expanding codeshare cooperation and exploring other collaborations such as aircraft leasing, ground service, maintenance cooperation and cargo operations.

This cooperation is alsoexpected to provide added value for service users of both airlines considering that Vietnam Airlines passengers could more easily access various superior Indonesian destinations, such as Bali, Lombok, Medan, Yogyakarta, Labuan Bajo and other exotic destinations. Conversely, Garuda Indonesia passengers could access various tourist attractions in Vietnam such as Ha Long Bay, the old town of Hoi An in, and Ho Chi Minh City.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, welcomed the partnership as it will strengthen Garuda Indonesia’s international flight network, especially in the ASEAN region. Garuda Indonesia shares the same vision as Vietnam Airlines in providing world-class service and expanding destination options for service users, especially in Southeast Asia.

“This cooperation is expected to provide more value for service users of both airlines to access various superior destinations in Indonesia and Vietnam as well as various other destinations, and also to bridge the exchange of trade, culture and tourism sectors of both countries. We believe that this cooperation will not only improve connectivity but also strengthen the position of both airlines in the global aviation market,” Irfan said in a statement as quoted on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, President and CEO of Vietnam Airlines, Le Hong Ha, said the parnership will not only strengthen the position of both national airlines, but also facilitate the provision of high-quality services for passengers travelling between Vietnam and Indonesia.

“We believe this will bring significant benefits to our passengers and further enhance economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries,” he said.

Earlier in 2014, Garuda Indonesia and Vietnam Airlines established a codeshare cooperation, where Garuda Indonesia passengers can enjoy a wide selection of Vietnam Aitlines destinations, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines passengers can enjoy a choice of Garuda Indonesia destinations, such as Denpasar, Surabaya and Singapore.
