Prabowo discusses strengthening strategic partnership with President Xi Jinping

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto discussed measures to strengthen Indonesian-China bilateral strategic partnership during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China, on Monday, April 1, 2024.

During the meeting, Prabowo expressed hope to progressively continue implementing the action plan to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China.

"Regarding defense cooperation, I see China as one of the key partners in ensuring regional peace and stability," Prabowo said.

"I am also committed to meeting Indonesia's defense equipment needs, including increasing defense industry cooperation and productive dialogue, as well as inter-service cooperation," he added.

The Indonesian Defense Minister hopes to explore the potential and opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and China.

In the meeting, President Xi Jinping expressed China's commitment to enhance comprehensive strategic cooperation with Indonesia in various fields, including defense, economy and security.

President Xi also said that China is ready to make positive contribution to maintaining regional and global peace and stability. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between China and Indonesia in maintaining maritime security in the Southeast Asian region.

Not only that, President Xi also expressed China’s readiness to deepen maritime cooperation with Indonesia, as a step to strengthen relations between the two countries in the marine sector.

In addition, China is also committed to helping ASEAN countries in poverty alleviation efforts, showing China's active role in supporting development and prosperity in the Southeast Asian region.

Eerlier in the meeting with the Chinese President, Prabowo conveyed warm reetings from Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his appreciation for the warm welcome by President Xi.

"I would like to express my appreciation for the warm welcome to me and my delegation. Let me also convey warm greetings from President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo," Prabowo said.
