U.S. Government congratulates Indonesia on election, highlights climate cooperation

The United States government congratulates the Indonesian people for their significant participation in the 2024 elections and expresses hope for collaboration with the elected president in addressing climate change.

White House spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, "We look forward to working with the President-elect, the next Indonesian government, and the legislative body on shared priorities that benefit the people of both countries, including addressing climate change, ensuring a prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific, and maintaining international stability."

Miller acknowledged the resilience and strong commitment of the Indonesian people to the democratic process and the electoral institutions, considering the voter turnout as evidence.

"We await the official announcement of the election results from the General Election Commission," he added.

Highlighting the 75-year diplomatic relationship between the United States and Indonesia, Miller emphasized the close partnership guided by the principles of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"Together with the new Indonesian government, we will strive to create a better future for our citizens and address the most pressing challenges of the 21st century," Miller stated.

In the 2024 Presidential Election, the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka led with 56.01 percent of the votes based on the preliminary real count by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

As of 7 AM on Thursday, February 15, 2024, the real count results showed a calculated voter turnout at 39.87 percent.

The Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair secured the second position with 24.56 percent, while the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pair took the third position with 19.43 percent. According to the preliminary real count, Prabowo-Gibran received the highest votes in West, Central, and East Java.
