The Ministry of Finance has noted that state tax revenue in the first quarter of 2025 was recorded at Rp322.6 trillion (US$20.6 billion), down 18.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

However, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the trend began to improve in March 2025 with a significant spike in revenue realization.

She cited that tax revenue in March 2025 reached Rp134.8 trillion (US$8.4 billion), much higher than February which was only Rp98.9 trillion (US$6.13 billion), reflecting a monthly growth of 7.9 percent.

"There has been a reversal of the trend from negative to positive, especially in March. This month's revenue covers 41.8 percent of the total accumulated tax revenue in the first quarter," Sri Mulyani told a press conference of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

She said that improvement in tax revenue cannot be separated from the sustainability of the tax reform being carried out by the government. One of the most prominent is the implementation of a technology-based tax administration system, namely the Core Tax Administration System or Coretax.

"This reflects that the tax administration reform program through Coretax is running according to plan and is starting to show positive results," she noted.

The increase in tax revenue, continued Sri Mulyani, occurred in various types of main taxes, including Income Tax (PPh) and Value Added Tax (PPN). This increase is considered an indication that domestic economic activity and people's purchasing power remain solid.

"This increase reflects that households and the business sector are still showing the strength of consumption and production, which shows the resilience of the Indonesian economy," she said.

The state treasurer emphasized that the government remains optimistic about maintaining the state revenue target, even though global challenges still loom over the national economy.

The government hopes that this improvement trend will continue throughout 2025.

"In the future, it is hoped that the implementation of tax collection will be more efficient and revenue can continue to grow optimally," the finance minister concluded.
