The Indonesian government has strongly condemned Israel’s renewed military assaults on Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of at least 232 civilians, including children, during the holy month of Ramadan 2025.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) denounced the attacks as part of Israel’s ongoing provocations that threaten the ceasefire and undermine efforts for a peaceful resolution.

“These attacks add up to a series of Israeli’s continued provocations that threaten the ceasefire and undermine prospects for a peaceful negotiation toward a Two-State Solution,” theIndonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said via its official X (formerly Twitter) account that was accessed on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Indonesia has urged the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take immediate action to halt the Israeli strikes and prevent further civilian casualties.

“Indonesia urges the UN Security Council and the international community to take immediate action to halt Israel’s attacks and calls on all parties to restore the ceasefire to prevent further civilian casualties,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its long-standing stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Indonesia emphasized that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through an end to Israel’s occupation.

“Indonesia reaffirms its consistent position that ending Israel's illegal occupation is the only path to achieving a just and lasting peace in the region,” the ministry concluded.

The latest escalation in Gaza has drawn widespread international criticism, with growing calls for diplomatic intervention to prevent further loss of life.

According to reports by The Jerusalem Post, the recent escalation in Gaza has resulted in significant casualties and displacement. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reported that as of March 9, 2025, the death toll in Gaza had reached 41,272 with an additional 95,551 individuals wounded.

The conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a massive attack on Israel, involving thousands of militants infiltrating from Gaza and taking approximately 240 hostages. This attack resulted in over 1,200 Israeli and foreign national fatalities, including more than 350 attendees of the Supernova music festival and hundreds of civilians in communities near the Gaza border.

In response, Israel initiated a comprehensive military campaign targeting Hamas infrastructure within Gaza. Operations have included ground invasions and airstrikes aimed at dismantling militant capabilities. Notably, Israeli forces have targeted areas such as Tel al-Sultan in Rafah, uncovering extensive weapons stockpiles and tunnel networks used by Hamas.

The prolonged conflict has led to a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with over a million residents displaced and widespread infrastructure damage exacerbating the already dire living conditions.

Efforts toward a ceasefire have been intermittent. On January 15, 2025, Israel and Hamas agreed to a truce that facilitated the exchange of hostages and prisoners. However, the ceasefire's stability remains fragile, with both sides accusing each other of violations.

The international community continues to express concern over the escalating violence and its humanitarian implications, urging both parties to engage in negotiations to achieve a sustainable peace.
