The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Bangkok, Thailand and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar are coordinating to try to repatriate 554 Indonesian citizens involved in online fraud from the armed conflict area in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
On Friday, March 14, 2025, the Indonesian Ambassador to Bangkok, Rachmat Budiman accompanied by the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha held a special meeting with the Governor of Tak Province, Chucheep Phonchai, along with related agencies to discuss preparations and ensure the smooth crossing of Indonesian citizens from Myanmar to Maesot, Thailand.
Thailand is used as a transit area for the repatriation of Indonesian citizens considering the security conditions of the Myanmar land route which do not allow it.
Chucheep, with the support of various Thai authorities, expressed his readiness to facilitate the crossing of Indonesian citizens from Myawaddy to Maesot by ensuring an escort to Bangkok and then flying them back to Jakarta.
Thai authorities also carry out the National Referral Mechanism process to identify victims of Human Trafficking (TPPO) as well as health and immigration checks.
All 554 Indonesian citizens are planned to arrive in stages at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten on March 18-19, 2025. They will then undergo an interview process, including rehabilitation and reintegration.
The Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs and the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment coordinate across ministries/institutions for the arrival process until repatriation to their respective regions of origin.
