The Indonesian Environmental Forum (WALHI) has reported 47 cases of mining deforestation to the Attorney General's Office (AGO), with potential State losses reaching hundreds of trillions.

"Today, Walhi from 17 provinces came to the AGO, received by the Head of the Center for Legal Information. We reported 47 cases of mining deforestation crimes, with a potential state financial loss of Rp437 trillion (US$26.8 billion)" Zenzi Suhadi, Executive Director of Walhi, said on Friday, March 7, 2025.

WALHI said that crimes against natural resources include palm oil plantations, industrial forests and mining.

"The termination cannot be case by case. The termination must be against the cartel (business group organization) that consolidated it," Zenzi said.

He cited that the business group organization is a political elite and government element, with as many as 12 levels of government suspected of being involved in deforestation.

"We also found approximately 18 forms of gratification that are still ongoing in relation to this crime," Zenzi said.

Walhi has previously submitted a similar report to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) nearly decade ago, and now they hope that the AGO can thoroughly investigate this mining deforestation case.

The AGO said that it will forward the report to the division authorized to handle environmental corruption crimes.
