Hydropower plan specialist PT Arkora Hydro (ARKO) claims to have managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 235,950 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) throughout 2017 until the end of 2024.

Founded in 2010, ARKO is an Indonesian renewable energy company specializing in the development, construction, and operation of small-scale hydropower plants. Focusing on hydropower generation, ARKO harnesses river flow energy to produce electricity, contributing to Indonesia’s transition toward renewable energy and its net zero emissions (NZE) goal.

"This reduction in greenhouse gas emissions can be done because the energy produced by ARKO comes from river flow energy and is certainly classified as new and renewable energy (EBT)," Aldo Artoko, President Director of ARKO, said as quoted by Katadata.co.id, on Monday, March 3, 2025.

Currently, ARKO has a total contracted capacity of 42.8 Megawatts (MW) from three projects that have been operating such as the Cikopo Project in West Java at 7.4 MW; the Tomasa Project in Central Sulawesi at 10 MW; the Yaentu Project in Central Sulawesi at 10 MW and from two projects that are under construction such as the Kukusan Project in Lampung at 5.4 MW; and the Tomoni Project in South Sulawesi at 10 MW.

He said the company is optimistic about the development of the EBT sector in Indonesia and confident that it can support the government targets, such as energy mix targets, Net Zero Emission (NZE), and energy self-sufficiency.

In this effort, the company continues to accelerate the construction of the Kukusan Project and the Tomoni Project so that they can immediately contribute to Indonesia's energy mix originating from renewable energy and accelerate Indonesia's achievement of energy self-sufficiency.

Aldo cited that the company strives to achieve a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) or electricity purchase agreement considering the power plant capacity in ARKO's plan is more than 260 MW.

"Thus, ARKO will continue to be able to achieve sustainable growth. With more power plant projects that we build, ARKO's greenhouse gas emission reduction can be even greater, so that the net zero emission target can be realized for a better future for our earth," he concluded.
