A delegation of 35 French companies, represented by the French Business Confederation (MEDEF International), met with Indonesin Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 to explore investment opportunities in three key sectors: renewable energy, infrastructure, and decarbonization.

Rosan highlighted Indonesia’s massive renewable energy potential of 3,700 gigawatts, of which only 1 percent (around 13.08 GW) has been utilized, while emphasizing that solar energy and geothermal power, with a potential of 23 GW (the largest in the world), present significant opportunities for investment.

"The key is to meet, discuss potential, and at the same time find ways to turn that potential into real investments. With 35 French companies present today, this is a great opportunity to strengthen our collaboration," Rosan said as quoted in a statement on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

The meeting also focused on concrete public-private collaborations to accelerate investment implementation. Rosan stressed the importance of policy adjustments and regulatory improvements to ensure a smoother investment process.

French Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste, Fabien Penone, reaffirmed France’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Indonesia.

He noted that French companies are already active in various sectors, including nickel mining and banking, and expressed confidence in further expanding their presence.

"The strengthening of France-Indonesia relations is a priority for our government. President Emmanuel Macron and President Prabowo Subianto have discussed this multiple times, which is why today’s meeting is essential for French companies to engage directly with the Indonesian government," Penone said.

Philippe Louis-Dreyfus, Vice Chairman of MEDEF International and Chairman of the France-Indonesia Business Council, underlined the investment focus on infrastructure, energy, and decarbonization, aligning with President Prabowo’s vision for Indonesia’s development.

"Our primary focus is on infrastructure, energy, and decarbonization, which align with the goals of the Indonesian government. I am optimistic that this visit will result in beneficial partnerships for both nations," he said.

France has been a strategic investment partner for Indonesia, with a total investment of US$1.05 billion between 2020-2024. The country ranks fourth among European sources of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with major contributions in housing and industrial estates, machinery and electronics, food industries, hospitality, trade, and repairs.

This visit underscores France’s confidence in Indonesia’s economic potential and its commitment to fostering long-term, sustainable partnerships in crucial sectors.
