PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) through the drilling of the Rotan River Downloack-1 exploration well in the PHE Jambi Merang working area (WK) in South Sumatra found oil and gas resources from the Baturaja Formation Limestone.
Through the flow test process of the layer content, this oil and gas resource has been proven to be able to flow gas at a rate of up to 5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) and condensate of 93 barrels of condensate per day (BCPD).
Suprayitno Adhi Nugroho, PHR Vice President for Exploration Region 1, said that this finding is the company's effort to maintain the resilience and sustainable synergy of the availability of national oil and gas reserves.
"This achievement figure is considered very important for the structure development scenario to be ready to strengthen future production support capacity, especially in the Jambi Merang PHE WK," he said, on Friday, January 3, 2025.
Production record
Currently, PHR operates in seven districts/cities in Riau province with the Rokan working area (WK) covering 6,200 km2. WK Rokan also produces a quarter of the national crude oil or a third of Pertamina's production.
Previously, PHR had recorded oil production reaching 58 million barrels throughout 2024. All production has been distributed to Pertamina's domestic refineries to support national energy.
"Since the transfer of management of the Rokan WK, PHR has recorded 1,539 new well drilling figures to support national energy security. From these well drilling, by the end of 2024, PHR produced more than 160,000 barrels of oil per day," Suprayitno said on January 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, the main contribution to production comes from drilling new wells and carrying out workover and well intervention work.
PHR also makes various efforts to maintain production with various innovations and technologies to increase production of wells in the Rokan WK. Suprayitno said that PHR during 2024 successfully carried out Fracturing in conventional wells and Multi Stage Fracturing in horizontal wells.
Furthermore, PHR also carried out exploration drilling of the Gulamo DET-1 and Kelok DET-1 Non-Conventional Oil and Gas (MNK) wells which proved the oil potential. Previously, it relied on technologies such as steamflood and waterflood.
