Pertamina NRE-Masdar sign renewable energy cooperation in Indonesia, abroad

Pertamina NRE and Masdar signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of solar and wind power plants in Indonesia and other countries with potential, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
The signing was carried out by Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) CEO John Anis and Masdar Development and Investment Director Abdulla Zayed, and witnessed by Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Eniya Listiani Dewi, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, Indonesian Ambassador to UAE Husin Bagis, and Pertamina CEO Nicke Widyawati.
President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati said that the company encourages all its subholdings to collaborate with partners with mutually beneficial principles.
"With this cooperation, Pertamina NRE can open many opportunities to be more expansive and go global," Nicke said.
Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis lauded the newly signed cooperation.
"We have similar competencies, can complement each other and are expected to open wider access on a global scale," he said.
Similarly, Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi praised the agreement achieved between the two companies.
"The joint efforts of Masdar and Pertamina NRE will catalyze investments in green hydrogen, solar and wind power, and position Indonesia as a regional leader in the global energy transition," Mohamed Jameel said.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Pertamina NRE and Masdar includes, among other things, conducting feasibility studies in the development of solar and wind farms, and possibly power to hydrogen. Not only exploring the potential in Indonesia, but also in other countries. The MoU is valid for one year.
Pertamina NRE and Masdar already have a strong relationship, with Masdar investing in PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a subsidiary of Pertamina NRE. UAE and Indonesia share the same vision to create sustainable development, one of which is through the development of renewable energy.
John Anis said the cooperation is expected to be one of Pertamina's manifestations of support for the government to achieve the net zero emission target in 2060.
Pertamina Vice President Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina NRE's work in developing clean energy-based power plants is one of its emission reduction initiative programs.
