State electricity company PT PLN has completed the construction of the 2 X 55 MegaWatt (MW) Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in Sumedang Regency, West Java.

The first synchronization of Jatigede Hydropower was successfully carried out to PLN's electricity system on Saturday, May 11, 2024 and is expected to increase the energy mix from new renewable energy sources (EBT) by 110 MW.

"The Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the solutions to provide clean energy for the community. PLN will optimize all existing green energy potential, which is also in line with the commitment to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 to ensure a better life for future generations," PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said.

Through this first synchronization stage, the Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant is ensured to operate in a coordinated manner with high reliability after the results of testing and integration of the power generation system with the existing electricity network.

Kunto Nugroho, Acting General Manager of PLN Central Java Development Unit, said that the success of this first synchronization is an important stage in the implementation of the project going forward.

"It is an important milestone in providing clean and sustainable energy supply for the community," Nugroho said.

The Jatigede Hydropower Project, located in Sumedang Regency, West Java, has previously gone through a number of important stages. In order to be able to operate commercially, there are still several stages of testing, including loading tests, reliability runs to obtain a Certificate of Operation (SLO). The plant is targeted to commence commercial operations in June 2024.

The Jatigede Hydropower Project is expected to make a significant contribution in meeting the need for environmentally friendly electrical energy. With the achievement of this first synchronization stage, the project is getting closer to the full operational stage.
