Jokowi meets UAE Ambassador, discusses economic strengthening and investment
Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the Republic of Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri on Tuesday (4/4), to discuss efforts to strengthen economic relations and boost investment between the two countries. Jokowi hoped that the ratification of the Indonesia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership can be finalized soon.
In addition, the meeting also discussed other efforts to strengthen economic relations related to UAE investment projects. President Jokowi emphasized prioritizing investment in port development, which is also expected to be completed soon, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, said on Tuesday (4/4).
The meeting was a follow-up to an earlier invitation extended by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to Dubai Port World, a multinational logistics company in the UAE, to collaborate in the sea and air transportation sectors.
During an official visit in late 2022, Minister Budi met Dubai Port World CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, to propose projects with funding through government and corporate partnership schemes.
Currently, Dubai Port World and Indonesia Investment Authority are exploring participation in the development and operation of Belawan Port PT Pelabuhan Indonesia, and the construction of an international container and logistics industry in Gresik, East Java with PT Maspion.
