Wilmar Group, Musim Mas Group, and Permata Hijau Group assets seized in relation to palm oil export corruption scandal

A number of companies in the crude palm oil sector were searched and their assets were confiscated after being named as suspects in the Crude Palm Oil (CPO) export corruption case by the Attorney General Office's Investigation Directorate.

The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) named three palm oil companies Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas Group as suspects for alleged corruption in approvals for the export of crude palm oil and its derivative products, including cooking oil.

In the decision of this case, the judge views the crime as a corporate action, because it is the corporation gained benefit from the crime. Therefore, according to the judge stated that the corporate must be held responsible.

The three companies were searched and its assets were confiscated because of criminal acts of corruption in the facilities for exporting CPO and its derivatives to the palm oil industry for the period of January 2022 to April 2022.

The three companies were proven in this case based on the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) and resulted in IDR 6.47 trillion of state losses.

Three companies were searched and seized, including PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia from the Wilmar Group in Medan, from which a total of 625 parcels of land covering an area of 43.32 hectares (ha) were confiscated.

In addition, as many as 277 plots of land covering an area of 14,620.48 ha owned by the Musim Mas Group (MMG) in Medan were confiscated.

Meanwhile, 70 plots of land covering an area of 23.7 ha and a large amount of money of various denominations were confiscated from PT Permata Hijau Group.

The five defendants involved in the case were sentenced to 5-8 years in prison. The five defendants include, Indra Sari Wisnu Wardhana, Directorate General of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Trade; Lin Chen Wei, a team member of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Assistant; Master Parulian Tumanggor, Commissioner of PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia; Stanley MA, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs at PT Victorindo Alam Lestari; and Pierre Togas Sitanggang, General Manager of General Affair of PT Musim Mas.
