Trimegah Bangun Persada plans a US$ 1 billion expansion for a new stainless steel factory
PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) will expand its business by building a stainless steel factory worth US$ 1 billion, and expected to produce millions of tonnes per year.
Established in 2004, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) is a nickel mining and downstream industry company on Obi Island, North Maluku. The company mainly produces saprolite, and ferronickel.
Roy Arman Arfandy, Main Director of NCKL, said the construction of a stainless steel factory is worth more than US$ 1 billion (IDR 15 trillion), with a production capacity of 2-3 million tonnes per year.
It is planned that this factory will be built at least in 2024, and is now still in the process of looking for investors which are expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The company is said to be in the process of discussing with investors and big players in this industry. It is known, this big investor is not from China.
"I hope that by the end of this year we can finalize negotiations with this new investor, so that we can start to build, maybe next year. Early in the year, yes," he said.
"I hope and pray that our discussion with one of the big stainless steel players in the world will be successful in completing the discussion, and we hope we will announce it before the end of this year," he added.
This development is in line with the company's efforts to downstream the company's plan to change from saprolite to ferronickel, and to stainless steel.
