Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, says that the government has built 40 thousand houses as part of the program to build 3 million houses per year as of Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

“To date, there are around 40 thousand houses that have been built since October 20, 2024 (inauguration of President Prabowo Subianto). And that will continue to increase,” Maruarar said on Tuesday.

The construction of the houses is targeted as a priority for low-income communities, with wages below Rp8 million (US$493) per month.

The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas is trying to gain access to confiscated plots of land under control of the Attorney General’s Office, those confiscated from liquidated banks put under the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) program, and undeveloped plots of land under control of Land Cultivation Rights (HGU) owners.

These lands will later become the property of the Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) of the Ministry of Finance and the Land Bank Agency.

“Then it will be processed further on how we will create a legal scheme, with legal certainty, and also one that is fair,” Maruarar said.

Earlier, Maruarar planned to utilize corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds in the country to fund the 3 million homes program. The funds disbursed reached Rp11.2 trillion (US$690 million) in 2024.

“I have called my business friends who can help fund the three million housing program. Maybe the land will come from the state and my business friends can help build it,” he said last October.
