Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) inaugurated the first welding of the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) gas transmission pipeline project phase 2 on September 30, 2024.
The 245-kilometer pipeline of the Cisem phase 2 project willl cover all aspects of integrated construction work, from design to implementation. It will cost about Rp 2.7 trillion (US$ 177.5 million).
The project tender process began in April 2024 and was announced on July 4, 2024 with the project implemented by the consortium of PT Timas Suplindo – PT Pratiwi Putri Sulung.
The Cisem phase two project stretches from Batang-Cirebon-Semarang-Kandanghaur Timur. With the duration of the project work set for 18 months, starting from the signing of the contract on August 2, 2024. Based on the 18-month determination, this project is targeted to be completed in February 2026.
“The first phase is already 60 kilometers, this second phase is 240 kilometers. The pipes that will be used are 100 percent from within the country,” Bahlil said on September 30, 2024.
Laode Sulaeman, Director of Planning and Development of Oil and Gas Infrastructure at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said that the first welding marked that all preparations for the construction of the project had been completed.
“After February, gas can be used like in the Batang Integrated Industrial Area,” he said.
The Cisem natural gas transmission pipeline is included in the list of National Strategic Projects (PSN) and is regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 3/2016, which was updated through Presidential Regulation Number 109/2020.
The project managed in the Multi-Year Contract is part of the government’s steps to connect the transmission pipeline network, starting from Sumatra, West Java, and East Java. This connection is so that the national natural gas supply chain can encourage energy independence. Meanwhile, the existence of the Cisem phase 2 project will complement the 60-kilometer Cisem phase 1, which was completed in 2023. Cisem phase 1 has been operational to supply natural gas needs in the Kendal Industrial Area since November 17, 2023 and the Batang Industrial Area since July 27, 2024.
