Sugiono meets with top PLO official at BRICS Plus Summit

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono held a bilateral meeting with Secretary General of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Hussein Al Sheikh on the sidelines of the BRICS Plus Summit in Kazan, Russia on October 23-24, 2024. In the meeting Sugiono reiterated Indonesia strong commitment to support the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom.

“I will make sure that the Palestinian issue will always be on the front line of Indonesian diplomacy and we will continue to stand together with the people of Palestine,” Sugiono said in a statement as quoted on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

“Support for Pelastine was also delivered by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in his inauguration speech on October 20, 2024,” he added.

The Indonesian foreign minister Sugiono in essence conveyed three points in the meeting. First Indonesia reiterates political supports for Palestine including continue to encourage permanent ceasefire and other peace efforts to achieve two state solutions.

Second, Indonesia reiterates commitment of humanitarian aid for Palestine in terms of bilateral support and also through United Nations bodies, such as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRW) and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Third, Indonesia reiterates the importance of collective efforts to encourage peace and stability in the Middle East region.

Concluding the meeting, Sugiono suggested that the BRICS summit should be used to strengthen collaboration as positive force to continue to work for peace in the Palestine.
