Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, says he is optimistic of potential collaboration in certain sectors throughout the development program in Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara (IKN), but reveals that there are currently no specific investment projects from Russian companies there.
“I have not heard of any specific projects or programs currently bein undertaken by Russian companies in Nusantara. However, we have received feedback from Indonesian delegations expressing their desire to see Russian companies involved in IKN development,” Ambassador told a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
Despite the current lack of involvement, Ambassador Tolchenov emphasized that Russian companies possess strong competencies in various sectors, including public transportation, city management digitalization, and more.
“We have extensive experience in these areas, and Russian companies are ready to share this expertise with their Indonesian counterparts,” he added.
Ambassador Tolchenov also called on the Indonesian government to provide clearer details on the specific needs and areas of interest for investment in IKN. This clarity, he noted, would help guide potential Russian involvement.
“We are ready to contribute to IKN, but we need a better understanding of what is required,” he said.
The ambassador also highlighted Russia’s achievements in pollution control projects, suggesting that this expertise could be particularly relevant given that IKN is being developed with a focus on becoming a Green City.
“Given this alignment, let’s explore what we can do together, and Russian companies will be prepared to take action,” Ambassador Tolchenov concluded.
