Prabowo meets Lloyd Austin, discusses Indonesia-US strengthened partnership

Jakarta − Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III met on the sidelines of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2024
in Singapore on Saturday, June 1, 2024, discussing efforts to strengthen long-term partnership between the two countries and issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for US’s support in cooperation to modernize Indonesia’s defense system to meet the Indonesian MIlitary’s strength.

Both also recognized the importance of bilateral cooperation in defense modernization to develop capabilities to effectively counter various threats.

“I express my appreciation to the support of the United States regarding cooperation in modernizing Indonesia’s defense equipment. This is important for the fulfilment of the Indonesian military’s basic strength,” Prabowo said.

He also expressed his gratitude for the productive discussions between Indonesia and the US and hoped to continue collaborating, as well as strengthening ties between Indonesia and the US.
