Prabowo discusses bilateral relations with Vietnam president, offers help on disaster

Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto met with Vietnam President To Lam in Hanoi on Friday, September 13, 2024, discussing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations in defense and security sector, information sharing and coordination in preventing transnational crime as well as collaboration to prevent illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing.

On the occasion, the Vietnam president also delivered his interest and requested Indonesia to share its experience in the UN peacekeeping operation.

“I hope Indonesia can share its experience and help Vietnam officers with training to participate in peacekeeping force in the UN,” President To Lam said.

Indonesia and Vietnam have strong bilateral relationship, especially in thebdefense sector. Currently Indonesian military officers are studying Vietnamese language in Vietnam, while Vietnamese officers are studying Indonesian language in Indonesia. The cooperation will hopefully continue at the evel of Staff and Command School and the National Resilience Institute.

Indonesia also pays attention to disaster that hit Vietnam recently. On the same occasion, Prabowo conveyed condolence for the casualties and damages caused by Yagi Typhoon disaste in Vietnam on September 7, 2024.

“Indonesia is ready to help in any capacity that is needed. I hope those who suffer from the disaster will have the strength so they can start the recovery process immediately,” Prabowo said as quoted in a statement on September 14, 2024.
