Sweden and Indonesia have agreed on 10 points of cooperation during Sweden-Indonesia Sustainable Partnership (SISP) 2022.
SISP is a partnership between Sweden and Indonesia for sustainability development to drive bilateral collaboration and business partnerships toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Companies also presented their products on sustainable and renewable energy during the event in Jakarta on December 5 and 6, 2022. Businesses hope that the partnership can foster collaboration and cooperation.
Sweden supports energy transition in Indonesia
The collaboration between Sweden and Indonesia was fruitful with the signing of 10 points of cooperation to support the energy transition of Indonesia.
Ambassador of Sweden to Indonesia Marina Berg and Sweden’s Trade Commissioner to Indonesia Erik Odar signed the 10 points cooperation for the SISP, namely:
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Program
- Digitization of economic zones
- Continuing the development of Bus Rapid Trans (BRT) and Green Bus
- Hospital Digitalization System
- Implementation of the cooperation project between PLN (state-owned electricity company) and Team Sweden
- Transfer of knowledge about the integration of electrical networks
- Ecoregion Collaboration in Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara)
- Cessation of the use of coal through the utilization of biomass and hydrogen energy
- Funding support for the energy transition, and
- Utilization of ocean power to reduce diesel dependency in remote locations throughout the archipelago.
Sweden’s highlighted sector is the transportation energy transition. Indonesia and Sweden are focused on transitioning the transportation system to electric bus, which is still ongoing. The collaboration created Urban Transport Alliance (UTA) to promote solutions for transportation sustainability in Indonesia and align business opportunities with Swedish businessmen in transportation sector. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2017 during the King of Sweden’s visit to Indonesia.
Since 2021, Sweden has also committed to support the transition of electric mobility, by collaborating with Transjakarta on the procurement of electric buses and infrastructure. The transition also involved the Ministry of Transportation and the Jakarta Administration. Swedish Export Credit Agency or Swedish Export Credit Corporation facilitated the procurement to reach the transition.
In 2023, the collaboration would expand in the transportation sector that will focus on the charging infrastructure facility, said Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden, on December 6, 2022.
Expansion to eastern part of Indonesia
Berg said her country has planned to expand to other regions for potential sustainable energy expansion to the eastern part of Indonesia, especially wind energy, solar energy, and geothermal energy.
The project is called ecobarge and was signed during an MoU with the Labuan Bajo authorities, focusing on renewable infrastructures in the Marina region, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
“We are planning to expand from the East and West Nusa Tenggara to the eastern part of Indonesia area. We are eying on Papua and Maluku as our main targets for renewable energy supplies to maximize capacity,” said Emil Akander, the Vice President and Head of Region South and Southeast Asia of Business Sweden.
