State electricity company PT PLN signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Cooperation Agreement with five partners for the development and provision of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) and Home Charging Services (HCS), which is aimed at strengthening electric vehicle ecosystem in the country.
The signing was carried out on the sidelines of the opening of the PLN ‘Electric Vehicle Ecosystem’ booth at the annual automotive exhibition Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024, at JIEXPO Kemayoran in Jakarta on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the five collaborations that were carried out at IIMS 2024 included the signing of an MoU with PT Vinfast Automobile Indonesia. This cooperation includes the development of SPKLU and HCS infrastructures.
During the event, PLN also signed a Cooperation Agreement with four partners, namely PT Arista Elektrika Nusantara, PT High Volt Technology, PT Exelly Elektrik Indonesia, and PT Utomo Chargeplus Indonesia. This cooperation includes the provision of charging stations where PLN provides electricity supply and platform.
“So later, we imagine that in public spaces, such as malls and offices, there will be charging stations that can be used by all brands which will make it easier for EV users in the country,” Darmawan said.
He added that PLN not only presents physical infrastructure such as charging stations and home charging in supporting the growth of EVs. Through successful digital transformation, PLN has provided end-to-end EV Digital Service (EVDS) in the PLN Mobile application.
“Through PLN Mobile SuperApps available on Playstore and App Store, PLN holistically connects the needs of EV vehicle users in the palm of a personal device,” said Darmawan.
Through PLN Mobile, people can directly get information on charging station locations and charging transactions; monitor power consumption; apply for home charging services and even access a test drive feature that brings together distributors with people who want to try out electric vehicles.
NZE target
Darmawan Prasodjo said that PLN is committed to supporting the shift in driving lifestyle from fuel-based to electric vehicles (EV) which are more environmentally friendly by, among others, preparing EV infrastructure to encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles.
This is in line with the energy transition agenda to reduce carbon emissions to achieve the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target in 2060 or sooner.
“PLN is committed to building a robust EV ecosystem that thrives in the country. This is clear evidence that we are making the transition from fossil fuel-based vehicles to environmentally friendly electric vehicles easier and this is part of the efforts to improve customer service,” Darmawan said.
However, he said, PLN cannot work alone in accelerating the development of electric vehicle ecosystem infrastructure in the country. For this reason, PLN is open for collaboration with various stakeholders to increase the electric charging infrastructure to make it more massive and widely available.
“We are very grateful that today we have signed MoUs and cooperation agreement with five private partners in providing Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Indonesia so that people are confident to switch to electric vehicles because the charging stations are everywhere,” Darmawan said.
PLN has so far supplied electricity for 1,124 Public Charging Stations and 1,839 Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swap Station (SPBKLU) spread across 427 locations, which are both owned by PLN and partners and the private sector.
