The eleventh National Congress of Golkar Party has unanimously endorsed Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia as the party chairman for the 2024 -2029 period after all party branch offices in the country’s 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities expressed their support for him.

“I would like to ask all participants of the 11th National Congress… Do you agree that we should appoint pak Bahlil Lahadalia as Chairman of Golkar Party for the period of 2024-2029?” Chairman of the Election Session of Golkar Party’s 11th National Congress, Adies Kadir, said while asking the audience in the opening election session as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

The participants responded to Adies’s question with an affirmative “yes” answer, accompanied by a loud applause. Bahlil then symbolically received the Golkar Party flag from the chairman and raised it.

“I deliberately accept the banner of Golkar Party to be hoisted throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia from Aceh to Papua towards a victory in order to greet the future Indonesia,” Bahlil said.

Prior to securing the unanimous approval, Bahlil had conveyed his vision and mission to the participants, as well as Golkar Party’s support for the government of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

In addition, he also said that he would bring Golkar Party even better in the future and provide opportunities for party cadres in the regions to progress at the national level.

Prior to the 11th National Congress, Bahlil had been declared as the sole eligible candidate for Golkar chairmanship after a rival candidate, Ridwan Hisjam, failed the administrative screening test.
