Former commissioner of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)  Saut Situmorang and several former KPK employees reported Firli Bahuri, chairman of KPK to the KPK’s Supervisory Council for ethics violation.

Saut said that he and his fellow anti corruption activists reported Firli Bahuri to KPK’s Supervisory Council . because Firli had illegally fired KPK’s Director of Investigation Endar Priantoro from his position.

“First, because of the Endar case,” Saut said to Indonesia Business Post on April 12,2023.

Anti corruption activist Marwan Batubara said that the dismissal of Endar from his position is related to  his reluctance to increase the status of the alleged Formula -E corruption case against Anies Baswedan. Endar was reluctant to name Anies Baswedan as a suspect in the case due to the lack of evidence.

“The motive of the formula case is not eradicating corruption, but on how to cooperate with Supreme Audit Council to increase the status of the case into formal investigation,” Marwan said.

Saut added that another basis of the reporting was the leak of Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry corruption case report.

Based on the information from investigator, the document concerning the case was sent by Firli Bahuri to Energy and Mineral Resource Minister Arifin Tasrif, who later gave the document to former acting Director General of Mineral and Coal Idris Sihite.

The document that Bahuri had shared was concerning an investigation into performance allowance cases at the Director General of Mineral and Coal.

Firli’s illegal behavior has violated three laws. First is the Law on the Eradication of Corruption because Firli as KPK chief has allegedly hindered an investigation of a corruption case. The second violated law is the KPK Law because Firli has allegedly made contact with the people who was involved in a case currently under KPK’s investigation. For this crime, Firli is subject to 5 years of imprisonment.

The third law violated by Firli is the law on freedom of information. “Not all information can be shared freely,” said Saut

On March 27, 2023 Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the director general of mineral and coal office in Jakarta. A reliable source said that the search is related to the embezzlement of state money by 11 people consisting of nine internal staffs of the Director General of Mineral and Coal, one retired staff of the Director General of Mineral and Coal treasury office, and one people from outside the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource.

One day after searching the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office, the KPK also searched an apartment owned by Sihite. An anonymous source said that there is possibility that KPK is targeting another case. This could be the case against Idris Sihite, the acting Director General of Mineral and Coal.  The source said that Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko got angry to Idris Sihite because Sihite interfered with his interest.

A former employee of KPK Praswad Nugraha said that Firli Bahuri has allegedly leaked documents of corruption investigation on 2020-2022 performance allowance at Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry.  Nugraha said that there is a video showing that Idris Sihite said that his name was mentioned in KPK report and that he got the document from Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resource, and that Arifin received the document from KPK Chief Firli Bahuri.
