Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, inaugurated Achmad Muchtasyar as Director General of Oil and Gas at the ESDM Ministry.

Muchtasyar is not a new figure in the oil and gas sector. He has had extensive experience in the industry, including serving as Director of Infrastructure and Technology at State-owned gas distributon company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) in 2023.

In addition, he has held various strategic positions, including Director of Business Development at PT Rekayasa Industri, Specialist in Marine Transportation and Sea Toll Services, and working at the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas).

Muchtasyar earned a Bachelor Degree in Law from the Bhayangkara University and a Bachelor Decgree in Petroleum Engineering from the Trisakti University. He obtained his Master Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of New Haven, the United States.

In his speech, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources emphasized the big challenges that await Muchtasyar, especially in relation to energy self-sufficiency amidst the decline in national oil and gas lifting.

“We are facing a big challenge in energy sovereignty. Oil and gas lifting continues to decline, while consumption continues to increase. If this is not addressed, we must convert to bioethanol,” Bahlil said.

Bahlil also asked Muchtasyar to immediately coordinate with the Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, to increase oil and gas lifting.

Based on the latest data, Indonesia needs to increase energy production to reduce dependence on imports, while maintaining national energy security.

With extensive experience and solid background, Achmad Muchtasyar is expected to bring significant changes in the oil and gas sector. This inauguration also marks new hope for Indonesia to achieve sustainable energy self-sufficiency.
