President Director of State electricity company PT PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, has suggested that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as future transportation is much more efficient when compared to fuel-based, even electric vehicles.
“The comparison is, if you drive gasoline- and diesel-based vehicle, it will cost you Rp1,300 per one kilometer. If you use an electric vehicle (EV), the cost is between Rp350 to Rp550 per km. Especially for hydrogen from PLN, the cost will only be around Rp270 per km, so it is very cheap,” Darmawan said while inaugurating the Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) in the Senayan area, Jakarta on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
According to Darmawan, the hydrogen price is affordable because PLN has successfully integrated the supply chain, one of which is through the presence of Hydrogen Refueling Station in Senayan. Moreover, the hydrogen production comes 100 percent from renewable energy, so it is certain that vehicles using PLN hydrogen release no emissions at all.
“The Green Hydrogen comes from PLN’s power plants that can produce up to 128 tons of hydrogen,” he said.
Darmawan explained that the first HRS in Indonesia, which is located in Senayan, is able to supply the power needs of 438 hydrogen cars per year with an assumed mileage of 100 km per day.
Darmawan said, in order to boost the massive use of hydrogen vehicles, PLN is ready to collaborate with all parties, including cooperating with the government in terms of using hydrogen buses as public transportation.
“We are ready to encourage this to be a futuristic lifestyle change, based on digital systems, which is more efficient and environmentally friendly, so as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Seeing the development of hydrogen vehicles in the future, we are also ready to increase the presence of HRS in the country,” Darmawan concluded.
