President Prabowo Subianto summoned Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, and his deputy Amarulla Octavian to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, November 24, 2025, discussing future direction of Indonesia’s research and innovation ecosystem.

Arif Satria said that he and his deputy briefed President Prabowo on short-term measures prepared to reorganize BRIN and enhance its support for government priority programs.

He cited that the president underscored BRIN’s critical role as the nation’s principal research and innovation institution.

“Pak President conveyed that BRIN is a very important research institution for this nation and is expected to always offer new hope through its discoveries and innovations, so the various problems in this country can be solved,” Arif told reporters after the meeting.

He said further that President Prabowo instructed BRIN to accelerate the downstreaming of innovation and deepen strategic collaboration with ministries, agencies, and state-owned entities ‒ including Danantara and Agrinas. The President also issued specific directives concerning BRIN’s strategic partnership with Agrinas.

“Agrinas is a partner that must truly become a collaborator in downstreaming, innovation, and research. Agrinas Palma, Agrinas Pangan, and Agrinas Jaladri must gain access to the latest technologies to strengthen food production. For the President, achieving food self-sufficiency is something that must truly be realized,” Arif said.

President Prabowo further emphasized that food self-sufficiency must extend beyond major commodities such as rice and corn. As a follow-up, BRIN will establish new research centers to reinforce the nation’s protein production.

“God willing, we will soon establish a fisheries research center to support efforts to increase national protein output,” he added.

Beyond the food sector, President Prabowo tasked BRIN with supporting industries that absorb significant labor. While Indonesia already has strong competitive advantages in garments and footwear, the President stressed the need to build technological independence in electronics.

Arif also reported that BRIN has prepared several innovations in the defense industry. The agency will expand cooperation with State aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia, State arms manufacturer PT Pindad, and national automotive manufacturers.

“I believe the Maung vehicle produced by Pindad will continue to see strengthened R&D efforts,” Arif said.

Arif concluded that President Prabowo’s directives mark an important moment for national research consolidation.

“This is a very significant momentum for consolidating national research and innovation so that it becomes a foundation for our economic progress,” he said.
