The Indonesian Central Bank (BI) has revealed that there are currently more than 370 million cybercrime threats targeting Indonesia, signalling the growing risks that accompany the country’s accelerating digital transformation.

The central bank also recorded a 25 percent increase in anomalous cyber traffic in 2024 compared to the previous year.

BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta, said the surge in cyber activity serves as a critical reminder for all stakeholders to remain vigilant as Indonesia continues to advance its digital ecosystem.

“We must stay alert to the emerging challenges posed by rising cyber risks and the issue of interoperability between systems,” Filianingsih said while addressing the Opening Ceremony of Day 2 of FEKDI X IFSE 2025 on Friday, October 31, 2025.

She emphasized that public trust must be the foundation of a strong digital ecosystem.

“We know that trust takes a long time to build, but only a second to break,” she said.

To anticipate the challenges of digitalization and strengthen cybersecurity,BI has prepared the Indonesian Payment System Blueprint (BSPI) 2030 − a strategic framework designed to enhance institutional synergy and ensure the security of the national payment system.

“Through BSPI 2030, BI aims to address these challenges by promoting synergy, innovation, collaboration, and security within the payment system,” Filianingsih said.

According to BI data, internet penetration in Indonesia has reached 80.66 percent, equivalent to about 229 million people, higher than the global average of 68.7 percent (roughly 6.66 billion people worldwide).

Filianingsih stressed that strengthening digital infrastructure requires cross-sectoral and international collaboration, as cyber threats are global and evolving rapidly.

“We are also engaging in international cooperation to ensure we don’t fall behind − and to avoid becoming complacent by focusing only on domestic efforts,” she concluded.
