President Prabowo Subianto witnessed the signing of a preliminary agreement on gas sales from the Masela Block between Inpex Masela Limited and three Indonesian state-owned companies during the 49th IPA Convention & Exhibition at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

The agreement, known as a Head of Agreement (HoA), involves State electricity company PT PLN, State gas company PT PGN, and State fertilizer company PT Pupuk Indonesia.

Inpex Masela, the operator of the Abadi LNG Project, is collaborating with the subsidiary of State oil and gas company PT Pertamina, the Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela (PHE Masela) and Petronas Masela. Together, they signed three non-binding HoAs outlining a framework for the long-term sale and purchase of LNG and natural gas to the three Indonesian companies.

The Abadi LNG Project boasts a production capacity of up to 9.5 million tons of LNG per year, 150 million standard cubic feet of piped gas per day, and approximately 35,000 barrels of condensate per day.

During the event, President Prabowo extended an open invitation to major global oil and gas companies to invest in Indonesia’s upstream energy sector.

“I encourage all parties, both domestic and international, to explore the opportunities we are offering,” he said.

The president also praised this year’s IPA Convention, noting the strong presence of international energy giants, such as ExxonMobil, Mubadala, and bp. He highlighted a significant recent discovery by Mubadala in the Andaman Sea, off the coast of Aceh, describing it as one of the largest gas fields in Southeast Asia in decades.

“This could be the biggest gas field in many decades. It’s extraordinary,” Prabowo remarked.

On the occasion, the president also exposed the newly established Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Authority (Danantara), which will act as a strategic partner in national energy projects.

He emphasized that Danantara is ready to invest and collaborate with international investors to help meet the country’s growing energy needs.

“Danantara Indonesia is prepared to make strategic investments in available energy projects, working alongside our international partners to support our national energy demand,” Prabowo said.

The event marked a significant milestone in Indonesia’s push for energy security and showcased the country’s openness to global partnerships in achieving its long-term energy goals.
