Indonesia prepares temporary shelters for Gazans, stresses humanitarian role
Foreign Minister Sugiono said that President Prabowo Subianto is preparing measures to accommodate Gaza residents in Indonesia, while emphasizing that the coutnry has no intention of relocating Gazans, but only temporarily accommodating them.
"According to the President's direction, their presence in Indonesia is temporary and is not intended at all to "move" the Palestinians from their homeland," he said on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
He added that Indonesia rejects any attempt to relocate or move Palestinians from their homeland. Any attempt to change the "demography" of Gaza is a violation of international law.
He cited that President Prabowo wanted to reaffirm Indonesia's commitment to helping the Palestinian struggle. The solidarity of the people and the Indonesian government is demonstrated through various forms of assistance in the form of capacity building, infrastructure development and of course humanitarian assistance.
"Indonesia is also consistently encouraging the resolution of the Palestine-Israel conflict based on the principle of the Two-State Solution, and encouraging the cessation of all forms of violence," he said.
According to him, Indonesia is ready to play a broader role as well as accept war victims, especially civilians, for treatment and care in Indonesia if requested by all parties
"In addition to injured victims, Indonesia is ready to accept orphans who are victims of war who need treatment because of the trauma they experienced," he said.
He added that Indonesia is currently consulting with various countries, especially the Palestinian Government. Indonesia also needs to ensure that all these measures are fully carried out in the interests of the Palestinian people and receive support from countries in the region and at the national level.
